I spent my last night in the camper van in Port Douglas. The weather had been great yesterday. This morning was another story, overcast but pretty humid.
I spent a while sorting out the van, putting it back to how it should be, then headed out of the campsite and parked up by the beach.
4 Mile Beach – not much for the lifeguards to do this morning!
I had plenty of time for a walk on the four mile beach and another mooch around the shops on the high street.
Whilst it wasn’t sunny, it was still a nice morning to stretch the old legs.
The main shopping street was pretty quiet. I walked over to Anzac Park where I’d watched the sunset the other night, still a very cool spot.
Then back to the van and time to head to Apollo in Cairns to drop the van off. The drive was easy, about an hour. The views of the coast were beautiful and it was great to have the time to drive the route again.
At Apollo, I asked for a refund for the days I’d spent in the smaller van (without a shower or toilet). They said they’d get back to me but agreed to credit the difference – so we shall see!
I headed into Cairns and checked into the ‘hotel’ for the night. I am very happy to be sleeping in a proper bed and have my very own bathroom to myself tonight.
I went for a last meander around Cairns, checked out the night market and headed to the marina for some food and a glass of vino.
Last night on the east coast. Tomorrow Ulura!
A last sunset from the east coast!
