I had a good day in Adelaide today. The forecast was threatening rain and whilst it sprinkled a little bit I managed to dodge the showers.
First up I wandered towards Adelaide’s Central Market.
The market was a hive of activity, lots of fresh fruit and veg stalls, a fish market, fresh bread and best of all awesome cheese stalls.
Then a quick wander around China Town and then I meandered towards the North Terrace. This took me through Victoria Square, where Queen Vic was proudly standing. There were also some really nicely architected churches and and court houses!
I really liked the arches and the green door of the Pilgrim Church just off Victoria Square.
The Adelaide Art Gallery had a special exhibition called Versus Rodin. I went along with the guided tour which was actually very interesting. The exhibition was not only showing Rodin but also more contemporary sculptures and art work which also challenged the human condition.
The sculpture in the foreground is by Ugo Rondinone, in the background Rodin!
The rest of the gallery was really interesting also.
I hadn’t heard that Eros was missing from Piccadilly Circus in London so I’m assuming there is more than one!
I also really liked the Buddha exhibition.
This is the ten armed avolokitesvara (Guan Yin).
After a spot of lunch I wandered around a bit more of the gallery and then checked out the Museum of South Australia. It had a great exhibition called Yidaki, which was all about the didjeridu and the sound of Australia.
From there I checked out Hindmarsh Square, which amongst other sculptures had a giant flip flop and a clothes peg!
Then I wandered back towards the hotel and mooched around a street of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants which were close by.
More meandering tomorrow!
